GENERAL DISCIPLINE INFORMATION
Your good behavior and your respect for the feelings of others will insure your having the best possible school and learning environment for a successful year. Students who earn all satisfactory and outstanding marks in citizenship and effort on his or her report cards will be eligible for the quarterly school-wide reward events. Failure to act in a responsible or respectful manner may result in disciplinary action.

PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE POLICY
 
In keeping with the goal of maintaining an academically focused school in which every student has an opportunity to learn, Lexington Junior High School has developed a Progressive Discipline Policy which is consistent with the Anaheim Union High School District’s Policy of Progressive Discipline.
 
Our goal is to put in place consequences which successfully modify negative behavior patterns. Therefore, the following consequences are in place for rule violations:
• Warnings
• Detentions (30 and 60 minute)
• Wednesday Work/Study
• On Campus Suspension
• Off Campus Suspension
 
Detentions:
A student must serve all detentions, and only the teacher who assigned the detention may reassign that detention to another date.  A student must report to room 504. Detentions can be served:
 
• 30 & 60 minute detentions may be served 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., (Mon. – Thur.)
• A No-Show for a 30 minute detention will result in a 60 minute detention.
• A No-Show for a 60 minute detention will result in a Wednesday Work/Study.

After 10 detentions, a student is placed on a behavioral contract and further detentions are automatically doubled, a referral is written, and a Wednesday Work/Study or suspension may be imposed.
 
Detention Hall:
• Detention Hall, 2:30 - 3:30 (30 or 60 minutes).
• Students are NOT admitted without an ID card.
• Students are to bring homework and work quietly. Talking is NOT permitted.
• Students will NOT be admitted if they are late.
• Students need to bring a book if no school work is available.

Work Study Program:
The Work Study Program is a 2 hour program. A student must report to room 504 by 2:30 p.m. for one (1) hour of detention followed by one (1) hour of campus beautification from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. NO tardies will be accepted. Students should bring enough materials to stay engaged for the 1 hour detention session. All school rules are in effect. ID cards are required to be admitted.
 
• 2:30 – 4:30 each Wednesday.
• 1 hour of homework is required followed by 1 hour of campus beautification.

On Campus Suspension:
• 8:00 a.m. – 2:20 p.m. (subject to change).
• Student is isolated the entire day.
• Student must have enough work to work quietly all day.
• Students removed for misbehavior or rule violation will be suspended off-campus.


Suspension:
• Students are not allowed on campus or at school-sponsored events.
• Parents are to request homework through the attendance office.

Appeal:
Parents with concern regarding a specific discipline infraction must first appeal the decision to the disciplining teacher or assistant principal. Further appeal may be made to the site principal. Final appeal is to the Assistant Superintendent of Administration at the District Office.


TARDY POLICY
 
• Students must be in a desk at the sounding of the tardy bell.
• First offense is a warning.
• Second offense is a half-hour detention.
• Third offense is an hour detention.
• Fourth offense is a Wednesday Work Study.
• Fifth offense is a Saturday School.
• A student with more than five offenses is considered habitually tardy and therefore referred to administration.

DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO
 
In keeping with the policies of the Anaheim Union High School District as set forth by the Board of Trustees, Lexington Junior High School will enforce the rules and laws regarding drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
Illegal substances include: Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, amphetamine, prescription medication, over-the-counter medication (Advil, Tylenol, cold medicine, etc), other controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
 
The following rules apply:
 
• Bringing drugs to school or holding them for someone may result in a 5 day suspension, transfer to another school, and arrest.
• Giving or selling drugs, in any amount, to someone else may result in expulsion from the school district and arrest.
• Being under the influence of an illegal substance while at school or a school sponsored event may result in a 5 day suspension, transfer to another school, and arrest.
• Students who are under a doctor’s care and require prescription medication throughout the day must give all medicine as well as a physician’s note to the school Health Clerk. The school Health Clerk will secure and dispense all medication per doctor’s orders.
 
WEAPONS AND DANGEROUS OBJECTS
 
It is our intent to make Lexington Junior High School a safe place for everyone. Our policies are those of the Anaheim Union High School District as set forth by the Board of Trustees. We will enforce the rules and laws regarding weapons and dangerous items at school.
Weapons include: Real or fake knives of any shape or size, real or fake guns, and any other dangerous objects (lasers, poppers, fireworks, etc.).
 
The following rules apply:
 
• Bringing or possessing weapons (real or “look-alike”) or dangerous objects at school may result in a 5 day suspension, transfer to another school, arrest and possible expulsion from the district.
 
 
Violations which may result in Suspension, Administrative Transfer, and/or Expulsion:
1. Alcohol/Drug involvement 7. Weapons
2. Arson 8. Fighting/Aggression
3. Fireworks/Explosives 9. Theft
4. Assault/Battery/Threats/Intimidation 10. Vandalism
5. Obscene Acts/Habitual Profanity 11. Sexual Harassment/Assault
6. Disruption 12. Tobacco Use/Possession
 

CELL PHONES
 
All cell phones must be turned off and kept in backpacks. They must not be visible. Students may not use their cell phones between the hours of 7:55 a.m. and the final bell at the end of the day. Cell phones cannot be used during detention or in any after school classes.
 
If a student uses a cell phone for any reason during the restricted time, the following rules apply:
 
• The cell phone will be confiscated from the student.
• A detention will be assigned along with a referral.
• The cell phone will be returned only to the parent/guardian of the student.
 
Confiscated items will be labeled with the student’s name and kept in the main office until the parent takes possession.
 

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
 
CD players, MP3 players, IPOD’s, cameras and other electronic devices are not allowed on campus. These items are often disruptive and are among the most lost, stolen and broken items belonging to students. Students are not to bring these items to school. Electronic devices are restricted by the Education Code set forth by the State Department of Education.
 
If a student uses an electronic device while on campus, the following rules apply:
 
• The electronic device will be confiscated from the student
• A detention will be assigned along with a referral
• The electronic will be returned only to the parent/guardian of the student.
 
THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY
 
If you need to contact your student during school hours, you may leave a message in the office at 714-220-4201. Except for emergencies, the student’s name will be placed on our message board and they may pick up their messages during passing periods.

ACADEMIC HONESTY AND CHEATING POLICY
 
At Lexington Junior High School, we value academic integrity and honesty; therefore, we enforce a strict academic honesty and cheating policy.
 
The following rules apply:
 
• Cheating by copying from others, providing work for others, allowing others to copy, having or using notes, formulas, or other information in a programmable calculator or other programmable electronic device is not permitted.
• Plagiarism by copying another person’s work and submitting it as your own or acting as a provider of a paper or papers for others is not allowed.
 
Students who violate these rules will receive the following:
 
1. Teacher will assign “no credit” (zero/F) for the work in question.
2. Teacher will assign a “U” in citizenship for the current grading period.
3. Teacher will notify parent/guardian.
4. Teacher will submit a referral to the site administration.
5. Administrator will assign On Campus Suspension.
6. Administrator will contact parent/guardian regarding the incident.
7. Administrator will enter incident into student’s disciplinary/cumulative file.
8. Conference will be held with the parent/guardian and student.
 

STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD POLICY
 
• Students MUST carry their student identification cards with them at all times.
• Student Identification Cards will be provided to every student during registration. Students who do not receive their ID card during registration will be responsible for getting their ID card as soon as possible.
• A student ID card authorizes a student to be on campus and every student must have their student ID card in their possession at all times while on campus.
• Students will not be permitted into detention hall or Wednesday Work Study without their school ID card. They will be considered a no show and receive the next consequence.
 

DANCE CONTRACT
 
• When attending a Lexington Junior High School dance, the student will agree to act in accordance with the rules and regulations of the school. If the rules and regulations are broken during the dance, the student will be asked to leave without a refund and proper discipline will be assigned by administration.
• Dance passes can be purchased at registration, the week of the dance, and the day of the dance. Students who misplace their ID cards the day of the dance need to purchase one in the main office or see an administrator.
 
To make the dance appropriate for school and comfortable for everyone, the following dance rules and regulations will be in effect:
 
• Lexington students may not invite outside guests to the dance
• ID cards are needed to enter the dance
• No moshing, slam dancing, or “freak” dancing
• No legs can be intertwined
• No full body contact
• No kissing, holding hands, or hugging
• No fighting or arguing
• No throwing or breaking items during the dance
• Backpacks cannot be picked up until the student leaves
• Students who have detentions may come to the dance late by an escort
 
Dances start at 2:30 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. Parents should pick up their children immediately afterwards.
 

LEXINGTON FIELD TRIP POLICY
 
In the event of an elective field trip (i.e. not listed specifically in the standards and/or an assignment for which the student will receive a grade) the faculty will be given the opportunity to block a student from attending a field trip either if said student’s current grade is below average (D,F) or if citizenship is unacceptable.
 
P.E./Intramural Sports: The P.E. department will also follow the district’s policy that a student must hold a 2.0 GPA in order to participate in intramural sports and travel with the teams. This is based upon the previous quarter/semester grade. A list will be sent around to the teachers including students who will be attending games during the school day. If a student should not be attending due to grades (D,F), they will be notified by the teacher or the coach.
 

GENERAL STUDENT CONDUCT
 
Lexington Junior High School students are encouraged to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to an educational environment.
 
Therefore, the following general rules of conduct are enforced:
 
• Students are to be prepared for school each day.
• Students are to be on time for school each day.
• Students are to demonstrate good citizenship and respect for others.
• Students shall not use inappropriate language.
• Students are to keep Lexington clean from trash. No littering.
• Students are not permitted to “rough house” or “horse play.”
• Students are not permitted to show public displays of affection: no kissing, hand holding, or hugging.
• Students are not permitted to chew gum.
• Students are not permitted to run in the hallways.
• Students are not permitted to have items in class (i.e. balloons, flowers, etc.) which may distract the educational environment.
 
Violations of these general rules of conduct will result in the issuance of a detention. Multiple violations will lead to the implementation of the progressive discipline process.
 

 
Dress Code Policy
Anaheim Union High School District
Current educational thought suggests that students are much like adults in the business world. Both should dress for success. How a person dresses directly affects how they perceive their role in organization and how they are perceived in that organization.
 
The following rules apply:
 
While on campus students shall be dressed and groomed in a manner which reflects good taste and decency, and will not detract from or interfere with the educational process, environment, instructional program, general morale or image of the school. All dress must be modest, neat, clean and consistent with the following:
 
• All shirts must have a sleeve which covers the shoulder.
• Shoes must have an enclosed toe and strap covering the heel.
• No Sagging – pants must fit at the waist and crotch.
• Oversized shirts are not permitted and must be no longer than the bottom of the finger tips with arms down to the sides. Clothing must fit.
• Clothing must cover the midsection.
• Shorts must cover the buttocks and be to the bottom of the thumb with arms down to the sides. Skirts must be longer than finger tips down to the sides.
 
In addition, the following are NOT permitted on campus or at any school-sponsored event:
• Dress, grooming or accessories which are unsafe, dangerous, or a health hazard.
• Display offensive or obscene symbols, signs, slogans or words, degrading any cultural, religious or ethnic values.
• Contain language or symbols oriented toward, sex, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, violence or weapons.
• Displays or contains, gang, tagger, crew and /or clique symbols, colors, slogans, signs. (Because some gangs have adopted Raiders and Cowboys football jerseys as their attire, Raiders and Cowboy Jerseys are not allowed).
 
Other items which are not allowed on campus:
• Slippers
• Pajamas
• Belt buckles with initials
• Sunglasses
• Hats, caps, sweatshirt hoods, bandanas, hairnets, scarves, headbands, or any other head covering. (School approved hats may be worn outside during Physical Education classes, but never in the classroom.)
• Wallet chains, spiked bracelets, collars, excessive metal on belts.
 
THE DRESS CODE WILL BE FULLY AND FAIRLY ENFORCED
 
Consequences for violating the dress code may include one of or a combination of the following:
• Change into appropriate clothing provided by the school.
• Parent contact and student sent home to change.
• 30 minute detention
• 60 minute detention
• On-campus suspension
• Repeat offenders may face 3 day suspension and administrative meeting with parents and student to discuss transfer to another school.


 
SEXUAL HARRASMENT
Sexual harassment is NOT cool...it is illegal!

What is Sexual Harrasment!

  1. It is unwelcome, unwanted sexual behavior that makes a student feel uncomfortable.
  2. It is behavior directed at a person because of his or her sex.
  3. Sexual harassment can be: male to female; female to male; female to female; male to male.
  4. Sexual harassment can take many forms. It may be physical - verbal - visual.
