Dress Code Policy

Anaheim Union High School District
Current educational thought suggests that students are much like adults in the business world. Both should dress for success. How a person dresses directly affects how they perceive their role in organization and how they are perceived in that organization.

 
The following rules apply:
 
While on campus students shall be dressed and groomed in a manner which reflects good taste and decency, and will not detract from or interfere with the educational process, environment, instructional program, general morale or image of the school. All dress must be modest, neat, clean and consistent with the following:
  • All shirts must have a sleeve which covers the shoulder.
  • Shoes must have an enclosed toe and strap covering the heel.
  • No Sagging – pants must fit at the waist and crotch.
  • Oversized shirts are not permitted and must be no longer than the bottom of the finger tips with arms down to the sides. Clothing must fit.
  • Clothing must cover the midsection.
  • Shorts must cover the buttocks and be to the bottom of the thumb with arms down to the sides.
  • Skirts must be longer than finger tips down to the sides.
In addition, the following are NOT permitted on campus or at any school-sponsored event:
  • Dress, grooming or accessories which are unsafe, dangerous, or a health hazard.
  • Display offensive or obscene symbols, signs, slogans or words, degrading any cultural, religious or ethnic values.
  • Contain language or symbols oriented toward, sex, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, violence or weapons.
  • Displays or contains, gang, tagger, crew and /or clique symbols, colors, slogans, signs. (Because some gangs have adopted Raiders and Cowboys football jerseys as their attire, Raiders and Cowboy Jerseys are not allowed).
Other items which are not allowed on campus:
  • Slippers
  • Pajamas
  • Belt buckles with initials
  • Sunglasses
  • Hats, caps, sweatshirt hoods, bandanas, hairnets, scarves, headbands, or any other head covering. (School approved hats may be worn outside during Physical Education classes, but never in the classroom.)
  • Wallet chains, spiked bracelets, collars, excessive metal on belts.
THE DRESS CODE WILL BE FULLY AND FAIRLY ENFORCED
 
Consequences for violating the dress code may include one of or a combination of the following:
  • Change into appropriate clothing provided by the school.
  • Parent contact and student sent home to change.
  • 30 minute detention
  • 60 minute detention
  • On-campus suspension
  • Repeat offenders may face 3 day suspension and administrative meeting with parents and student to discuss transfer to another school.
